At eighteen I flew to Brazil wearing someone else's face. A full mask of makeup, hair dyed black, blue contacts covering my own eyes. I had rewritten myself into a version I thought the world would prefer. I landed somewhere where the girls wore nothing but sunscreen and a smile. Natural hair, bare skin, their real eyes. They were the most beautiful women I had ever seen. In one afternoon it became obvious: natural beauty always wins. Less is more.
I went home and asked a question I still haven't stopped asking: what does actually healthy skin look like, and why don't we have it? I took the contacts out, grew my real hair back, and stripped the makeup back to light and natural.
That was when it hit me. The reason I'd started researching in the first place. For years I had been layering my face with foundation, primer, setting spray, every product the industry sold me. Every one of them was packed with damaging chemicals I was feeding straight into my skin. I wasn't covering flaws. I was creating them. Then the real work began.
Years of research followed. Studies, clinical papers, trial and error on myself. I started sharing what I found on Threads as @skinthatglowsbymel because I kept hitting the same gap: there was no one talking about skin as an ecosystem. Everyone sold a cream. Nobody explained the whole system behind a face that glows.
